Insurance Gateway® was founded in February 2005 and, to date, it is the only known independent multi-national online insurance and financial services industry information portal in Africa, for Africa, with over 120 0000 monthly visits. Although a high percentage of the traffic is generated from South Africa, the website regularly has visits from over 100 countries.
People ask, what is Insurance Gateway®?
The answer is not a simple one really, as Insurance Gateway® has a complex brand structure, given the various elements relating to its social involvement, innovation, consumer education, human capital development; it has a local and global presence and various sub-brands within the parent brand.
Created with a view to helping make insurance and financial services markets easily accessible, uplifting industry standards and assisting with consumer education, the website covers the South African market in detail and fifteen other mainly Sub-Saharan African countries outside of South Africa, from a single portal.
Content by Sector
The website has been structured to deliver content at the appropriate level, with separate sections for individual and business insurance and financial services consumers, and insurance/industry professionals; and so, typically, for instance, content in the Professionals Sections tends to be of a more technical/regulatory nature. Moreover, for ease of reference, content is provided according to industry sector.
Multi-national portal
After extensive research, we could not find any independent online resource which provides such information from a single platform, and hence the inclusion of surrounding territories on the Insurance Gateway® website from early 2009. This serves the purpose of helping to make the industry more accessible on a regional basis and provides a valuable resource for insurance professionals and business insurance consumers engaged in, or thinking of engaging in, cross border trade.
Since access to insurance and financial services is one of the key ingredients for all legitimate cross border trade, (as few cross border ventures would get off the starting block without the venture partners being certain of the availability of insurance in the territories concerned), Insurance Gateway® is seen as helping to facilitate cross border trade.
The rationale for inclusion of the countries we have to date is that they are all members or observer countries of the Committee of Insurance, Securities and Non Banking Financial Authorities (CISNA), a regional grouping of insurance and financial services regulators and so, as a starting point, we at least know that the regulator in the territory concerned is engaged in best practice principles regionally.
