Industry leaders tell us why they will be attending the African Insurance Exchange

Sign-ups for the 2019 African Insurance Exchange are progressing well. Numbers are on track compared to last year’s registrations. The exhibition space is sold out and the organisers tell us there have been a number of top industry executives who have signed up as delegates, speakers and panellists.

These include representatives from Discovery, Old Mutual Insure, Santam, Guardrisk, ITOO, Constantia, Bryte, Auto & General, Sasria, Allianz, MunichRe, SwissRe, AIG, Alexander Forbes… and loads more insurers, brokers, advisors, UMAs and other industry stalwarts. The conference will also see ombuds, regulators, third-party service providers, institutes, associations and organisations being represented.

We tracked down a few people who have signed up and asked what they’re most looking forward to at #AIE2019:

“This event offers important opportunities to learn more about our industry, the environment we operate in as well as the ever-changing face of consumers, to share information with colleagues, and to network with existing and new colleagues.

“This year’s event promises to be the most diverse ever, with an expanded programme, improved networking opportunities, the chance to learn more about the current insurance environment and, of course, to have fun while doing it!”

– Viviene Pearson, chief executive of the South African Insurance Association (joint organisers of the conference with the IISA)

*****

“I’m thrilled to be facilitating a panel discussion this year at the AIE2019. I’ve always enjoyed the talks and presentations at the conference but it’s a real privilege to be able to guide the conversation in front of one’s peers.

“I’ve been asked to facilitate a discussion on the exposures that arise out of an interconnected world. I’ve been to many talks about cyber, hacking and privacy issues over the past few years so I hope to move the conversation into some of the areas that are often ignored by the tech and cyber specialists. Want to know more? Attend the session…”

– Simon Colman, executive head: digital distribution, SHA

*****

“The African Insurance Exchange conference is one of the largest insurance conferences in Africa. It offers a great opportunity to learn and network with leaders of industry. And this year’s even promises to be ultra-memorable.

“We have conferred with the conference partners and organisers to provide input on topics and themes which are of relevance and interest to advisors and brokers. The theme – ‘Growing and Learning Together’ – underpins how we lead our organisations through tough economic times. We want to encourage our members from all insurance disciplines to attend the conference to develop what they have, learn something new and build relationships with stakeholders.”

– Lizelle van der Merwe, CEO of the Financial Intermediaries’ Association (FIA)

*****

“Claim Central Africa is a relatively new business in the Global Choices stable. So, having an audience of 1000 insurance people in one place is a golden opportunity to introduce and live-demo our new offering to a select group of individuals and companies who fall directly in our target market.

“In addition, the learning and networking are always top-notch, and I imagine this year will be no different.”

– Ronald Gall, MD, Claim Central Africa

*****

“The world is changing fast and insurance is part of that change. The insurance conference has matured and always brings great insights around local and international trends. Regulatory shifts, supply chain development, insights around complex issues such a emerging cyber risks etc., sharing of new thinking around technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, user-based insurance are just some of these topics.

“For me the conference is a great annual platform brining together a diverse group of people from insurers, brokers, supplier and others in our industry.

“In my mind the ‘actual’ conference takes place outside of the conference itself. That’s where it all happens. The value of a conference is its people, the networking, the catch ups, connecting with old friends and making new contacts.”

– Pierre Geyer, managing executive: operations, Hollard

*****

“Golf is always a big draw card at the AIE. This year there will be an expanded outdoor programme to cater to broader interests. Being active and healthy is, of course, a form of risk management in itself. And participating in group activities offers yet another opportunity for networking and doing business.”

– Carel Nolte, head of CN&CO (official event organisers for #AIE2019)
