<h3>Day 1 of Insurtech 2020 conference in Johannesburg</h3>

<img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-141648" src="https://www.cover.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/ESpu01EWsAY-Txd-300x225.jpeg" alt="" width="300" height="225">Day one of COVER's Insurtech conference started off with <strong>Dane Richards</strong> of <a href="http://www.jmr.co.za">JMR Software</a> talking to delegates about the Common pain points in core insurance platforms; Inflexibility, Inaccessibility or accuracy of data, Regulatory Changes and Security. Following Dane was <strong>Craig Olivier</strong>, VP of techstuff at <a href="https://genasys.co.za">Genasys Technologies</a> who provided <span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">some great insight into </span><span class="r-18u37iz">Insurtech </span><span class="r-18u37iz">innovation</span><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"> and </span><span class="r-18u37iz">Platforms. Craig also pointed out that InsurTech<span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"> adoption needs to be a culture, but that doesn't mean one should use tech for the sake of it. Dane and Craig were then joined by <strong>Brad Smith</strong> of <a href="https://www.jasure.com">JaSure</a>, in the first panel discussion of the day.</span></span>

<span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Following the Panel discussion, the other morning speakers were; <strong>David Kusel</strong>, CPO of <a href="https://www.sanlamindie.co.za">S</a></span><span class="r-18u37iz"><a href="https://www.sanlamindie.co.za">anlam Indie</a>, who </span>shared war stories from a startup in a big corporate; <span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"><strong>Charl Theron</strong> of <a href="https://www.astutefse.com">Astute</a> who urged brokers to adopt technology stating a survey that showed brokers who fail to adopt digital platforms will struggle beyond 2023; <strong>Claire Woods</strong>, MD of our amazing conference media partners, <a href="https://innosys.co.za">Innosys</a>, talked about giving life to the machines and the world of responsible automation; <strong>Tavio and Ryan Roxo</strong> of our Lead sponsor <a href="https://owlssoftware.com">Owl's Software</a>, delved into the requirements for effective systems development and took the audience through a live demonstration. Finishing up the morning session before the networking lunch were; <span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong> Lukas Van Der Merwe</strong>, Specialist Sales Executive: Security at<a href="https://www.t-systems.com/za/en"> T-Systems South Africa</a> discussing C<span class="r-18u37iz">yber security</span> in a digital age </span>and <strong>Candice Sutherland, </strong></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Cyber Underwriting, <a href="https://itoo.co.za">iToo Special Risks</a>,</span><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0"><strong> </strong>looking at the risks in underwriting cyber risks.</span>

Following the lunch break we heard from <span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Paul-Roux De Kock,</strong> Analytics Director at <a href="https://www.lightstoneauto.co.za">Lightstone</a> talk about AI; </span><strong>Kali Bagari</strong> of <a href="https://thedatacompany.com">The<img class="alignright wp-image-141646 size-medium" src="https://www.cover.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/ESqz225WsAEFurC-300x225.jpeg" alt="" width="300" height="225"> Data Company Group</a> shows their journey with AI; <strong>Sean Cullen</strong><span class="Apple-converted-space"> of </span><a href="https://www.esri-southafrica.com">Esri </a>took delegates through the value of effective geocoding and <strong>Amit Lev</strong> of the <a href="https://embassies.gov.il/pretoria/Pages/default.aspx">Israel Trade Commission</a> shared detail on the various insurtech developments in Israel. The four speakers then went into a Power Panel exploring the world of data as it touches insurance. The last presentation of the day was from <span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Yolandie Le Grange</strong>, COO of <a href="https://click2sure.co.za">Click2Sure</a> who </span>identified for delegates the 3 main insurance affinity partner channels: Retail, Banks and Telcos and the Technology and distribution opportunities they provide.

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Once the presentations were over for the day, delegates were treated to a networking cocktail function sponsored by <strong><a href="https://www.iwyze.co.za">Old Mutual's Iwyze </a>and <a href="https://www.pineapple.co.za">Pineapple</a></strong></span>
