SA's flagship sport industry event comes to Johannesburg this week

<strong>By: Hollard Sport Industry Awards</strong>

With South African sport, specifically rugby, being top of mind at the moment, how many of us recognise and appreciate the effort and creativity that goes on behind the scenes, particularly in terms of sports campaigns, events and sponsorships?

This Friday 22 November, the Hollard Sport Industry Awards are taking place at The Deck @ Wanderers, Johannesburg. Billed as South Africa’s most prestigious awards ceremony for sport and business, these awards which are now in their 9th year, acknowledge the leaders and trailblazers within the business of sport.

An initiative of the Sport Industry Group and sponsored by Hollard, these awards showcase and reward the passion and creativity behind some of South Africa’s most iconic sporting events, and the very best work behind the business of sport which spans marketing, PR, digital, sponsorship, advertising, community investment, social media and branding.

“We have seen the impact that sport can have on our nation with the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. Our organisation’s primary purpose is to enable more people to create and secure a better future. We recognise the ability of sport to play an important role in the physical and mental wellbeing of so many South Africans and by sponsoring these Sport Industry Awards, we want to endorse the people who make these amazing and often impactful campaigns and events come to life. All of these combined efforts contribute to uphold a viable sport sector in South Africa,” says Heidi Brauer, Chief Marketing Officer at Hollard.

Winners in 18 categories will be announced on the night and include Best Live Experience, Digital Platform of the Year, Development Programme of the Year, Best Sponsorship of a Team or Individual as well as Campaign of the Year.

A highly contested category annually is the award for Agency of the Year which last year went to T&W and in 2017 was won by Levergy. Highlights at this year’s awards will be the presentation of the Sport Lifetime Achievement Award, Sport Industry Personality of the Year and Leader in Sport Business Award.

Headline sponsor Hollard is already an active supporter of the local sports industry having sponsored various events which include the Hollard Jozi Urban Mountain Bike Adventure (JUMA), as well as the Hollard Jozi Urban Run Adventure (JURA) and the Daredevil run.

The Sport Industry Group, the organiser of these awards in Johannesburg, is represented in South Africa by Creative Space Media and is a networking organisation that sits at the heart of sport. Through editorial content and constant engagement with the industry, the Sport Industry Group looks to celebrate excellence and stimulate conversation, setting the agenda for the world’s most dynamic industry

Other sponsors at his year’s awards include <em>AB InBev, FujiFilm, Engen</em>, Nielsen, Deloitte, Belgotex, Gallo Images and SuperSport, Thebe Foundation and Nick B Sport Development.
