Oak Tree Annual Fishing Challenge 2019

By: Oak Tree

In the month of April, Oak Tree Intermediaries hosted another instalment of the Oak Tree Annual Fishing Challenge. We were accompanied by some of our valued clients and we headed to the calm waters of Lake Jozini in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Lake Jozini is probably the best Tiger fishing destination in South Africa.

It is a challenge at the best of times trying to land a tiger fish but this year all 8 fishermen were privileged enough to bring one on board. The setting in Jozini is serene as it is nestled in a game reserve surrounded by a spectacular mountain range.

Dion Van Schoor from African Rand hooked into a fish which we saw was a barbel as it surfaced. Suddenly, out of nowhere a massive crocodile swooped in from underneath the boat and snatched his fish. Not long thereafter, Gordon McKean (from team Oak Tree) got in on the action when his reel started screaming. The same monster croc that grabbed Dion’s barbell, grabbed Gordon’s live bait and made off with it. Excitement Deluxe!

The Tournament itself was held over three full days, and the winning team was adjudged based on total bag weight of the two participants from each team. This year, the Oak Tree Boys managed to retain the title and bragging rights with a combined bag weight of 5.29kgs.

A good time was had by all and we can’t wait for the 2020 edition!
