Winners announced for the 16th annual SME Toolkit Business Plan Competition

South Africa’s up-and-coming entrepreneurs once again took the spotlight in the 2025 SME Toolkit South Africa Business Plan Competition. Now in its 16th year, the competition continues to serve as a powerful platform equipping aspiring business owners with the tools, insights, and confidence needed to build sustainable enterprises.

After attending a series of training workshops, participants were required to develop and submit detailed business plans for their ventures. The programme drew a strong group of finalists who showed innovation, resilience, and clear plans for growth. Ndwedwe Animal Health Care Facility founder, Sinothile Ntshangase claimed the top prize after a tough judging process.

Celebrating entrepreneurial excellence

As the overall winner Ndwedwe Animal Health Care Facility walked away with a R50 000 cash prize, a R50 000 mentorship package, and a laptop. The business focuses on improving access to essential animal healthcare services in underserved rural communities and stands out for its strong social impact and scalability.

Securing the position of first runner-up was Jared Moodley, founder of Innovate Tutors, who received R30 000 in cash, a mentorship package valued at R30 000, and a laptop. Innovate Tutors is dedicated to enhancing educational outcomes through customised learning experiences and forward-thinking tutoring solutions.

The second runner-up title went to Patrick Makganyoga, founder of Wastend Group, who received R20 000 in cash, a mentorship package valued at R20 000 and a laptop. Patrick’s business is making strides in the waste management sector by promoting environmentally responsible practices while contributing to job creation.

The nine remaining finalists each received mentorship vouchers worth R10 000, giving them access to expert guidance and networking opportunities to further refine and grow their businesses.

A legacy of entrepreneurial empowerment

The SME Toolkit SA Business Plan Competition, facilitated by Business Partners Limited, remains a cornerstone initiative towards advancing South Africa’s small business ecosystem. By combining practical training, mentorship, and financial support, the programme continues to nurture entrepreneurial talent and drive inclusive economic growth.
